Extraction was released on 24 April, 2020 and is the hottest movie right now. Directed by Sam Hargrave and production of Russo Brothers, this movie is one of 2020’s most awaited movie.
The plot surrounds an international crime-lord’s son who’s been kidnapped and taken to Dhaka, Bangladesh. So Tyler(played by Chris Hemsworth) has been appointed to rescue him. Hence, the name Extraction.
It is an intense action packed film with good plot and strong visuals. IMDB rating of this film is 6.9 and it is one of the most anticipated film of this year, let’s accept it.
People talking in Bengali in a Hollywood film and Chris Hemsworth himself saying “Poman Dao”; yes please! I think this only got possible because it was released on a streaming platform like Netflix rather than a commercial production. The fact if you remember when Slumdog Millionaire (2008) came out it was a film completely based on India, but the language was completely English, even people of Mumbai slum knew pretty good English (although streaming platform was not a thing then).
This 2hrs movie is filled with pure adrenaline rush, powerful visuals and amazing cinematography; possible because of Sam Hargrave. The yellow color palette that we saw (similar to Breaking Bad) really made up for extreme violent scenes.
Now let’s take a minute and talk about Randeep Hooda’s performance here (who was also in a mission to save the kid). He did an astonishing job. We all are familiar to see Chris Hemsworth in insane action scenes because come on, he is Thor. Yet, what Randeep Hooda did was brilliant. I mean we all know how great an actor he is when we saw the film, Sarbjit and no doubt he is one of the finest actors of Bollywood. But we hardly saw him in such an action movie until now. The hand to hand combat with Chris Hemsworth, it was something worth applauding. He satisfied the Indian audience and we’re happy to see that his screentime was somewhat close to Chris Hemsworth.
Rudhraksh Jaiswal who did very good job of portraying his character playing alongside Hemsworth. He’s really lucky man. The scene where he shared a pretty emotional scene with Hemsworth was a sincere break from all the actions, an attempt to put soul into this film. The 2 min scene of Pankaj Tripathi as the crime-lord was perfect. Basically you give him any role and he will do nothing but justice to it. It was a huge break for rising Priyanshu Painyuli who shined as a drug lord.
For audience especially from Bangladesh and Indian Bengalis, let’s just say it perked our ears to listen to some of the familiar words in the movie. This film is worth one time watch. I believe they could have done bit more with the story. This is because if you separate the actions from this movie, it’s a hollow plot basically and that is a downside. If you are a pure action lover, this film is a treat for you but if you are looking for more substance in a film, then sorry.
