Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives Review
An attempt to make something like ‘Keeping Up With Kardashians’ but fails horribly yet expectedly. The Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives is an Indian reality television series that focuses on the personal and professional lives of Neelam Kothari(wife of Samir Soni), Maheep Kapoor(wife of Sanjay Kapoor), Seema Khan(wife of Sohail Khan), and Bhavna Pandey(wife of Chunky Pandey). What feels to be an insider to these ‘small-time celebrities’ is another unfruitful attempt by Dharmatic Production to create a show to carry on celebrity gigs as Koffee with Karan is not around anymore.
Everything Wrong With It
I didn’t quite catch the fact that why these celebrities’ wives are being cast when they themselves have never been in the prime spotlight. Let alone their husbands who are partly ‘busy’ actors; the only actor is Chunky Pandey who had tasted any success at any point in his life in Bollywood. The motive behind the show is self-explanatory- a show that would emphasize the falsity of the notion that celebrity wives don’t stay behind their husband’s shadows. But it’s a way to showcase that! This is a misleading show that might tempt you with its poster and trailer at first but you won’t be able to sit through the first episode of it.
…
The episodes are filled with unrealistic, staged scenes in the name of Documentary where these wives/friends seats together & have cringed, stupid conversations about their Instagram posts, or Maheep Kapoor anxiousness over daughter’s appearance in a prestigious France event- Le Bal Des Débutantes. They make themselves appear to have normal lies just by talking about the other Indian rich kids like Ananya Pandey, Isha Ambani & Shloka Birla who are also taking part in the event. Basically nothing fruitful for the audience. I mean why would the viewers be interested to listen to such unearthly concerns of the glamour parents. The conversations are so irrelevant & redundant that you will feel like putting your head through the very next wall, regretting your choice of show.
Other celebrities make appearances now & then like common friend, Karan Johar who visits them at a cafe because why not, its another normal day for them. In the last episode, Shah Rukh Khan & Gauri Khan made an appearance for a party to celebrate their friendship. And similar things keep on happening throughout the show. There are scenes like Maheep Kapoor admitting being an invited guest at Abhishek & Aishwarya Bachchan’s wedding. Who really cares about that! When you are making a show think of the audience who expect to see valuable content. There are too many stupid scenes in this show but I want to keep it short because just like this Netflix show, talking more of it will not matter much. Because to be honest if you are here before watching it then you’ve already made your mind of avoiding it & I’m glad of it.
Verdict
The industry is trying ways to fit the class & style of many popular Western shows/movie themes & fails horribly- one such example is Veer De Wedding (let’s not start with that). There are a lot of bad reviews I saw on the internet & I’m feeling sorry for it as it is definitely not bad, it’s Unwatchable. Important note: Netflix is becoming a dumping ground for dumb Indian content that exceeds the brainy, good ones. It is not even a brain-dead show as they at least entertain your tired mind. This is an unscrupulous show that is heavily staged & very badly scripted that is under the genre of “Documentary/Reality Television ” because nothing about it feels real. And if this is what reality is about their lives then man, I pity them; being a middle-class guy even my life is more interesting & thrilling than theirs.
