Monster Hunter

Monster Hunter Movie Plot:

The story is nothing different than most monster movies. There exists a world beyond ours ruled by deadly monsters. So Lt. Artemis and her loyal soldiers are transported to that world where they engage in a vicious battle of survival against the incredible, unstoppable, powerful monsters. Unable to cope up with it Artemis teams up with a mysterious hunter who has found a way to fight back with the monsters.

Monster Hunter Movie Story:

The story as mentioned above is very simple- a battle between human & monsters. God knows how many similar movies audience have seen over the years. The only new thing is with each new movie we see more critical & deadly CGI monsters/aliens. Another soulless video game adaptation that lacks in narrative direction too. Now if you are already a fan of the PC game then you might love it because it does not have any political mumbo jumbo- just hardcore action from start to end. But if you are not a fan of the game or knowing this movie for the first time then there’s nothing much to watch this movie for.

Just like most of Milla Jovovich movies like Resident Evil franchise, when you sit to watch the film, you know you are here for action so keep your brain in the refrigerator safely & watch it.

Monster Hunter Movie Performance:

Milla Jovovich’s screen presence was like a freshness in the ugly world of uglier monsters. She always fits the character of any slim, strong fighter in any story. Hunter, played by Tony Jaa- his character got no depth or real meaning, thanks to Anderson. In few scenes Tony & Milla’s conversations felt engaging. With Jaa’s entry the actions got doubled but still felt monotonous after sometime. I feel with Jaa’s introduction they could have done more with the story other than actions.

Monster Hunter Movie Technical Aspects:

First of all, Paul WS Anderson proved himself not good in making a video game adaptation. His movies are blunt & with each new releases they get more & more graceless- be it Resident Evil or his new film. Clearly he don’t have Resident Evil series to extend, he came up with this  1 hr 39 mins monster rip-off.

This film obviously have outstanding CGI so points for that. The monsters looks deadly. When the Diablos screech its ear- piercing roar on big screen my heart boiled. I occasionally had the fear of bursting my eardrums but hey, I was there for that. The brutal, unforgiving universe was introduced in the movie in no time.

Monster Hunter Movie Verdict

These films are actually made for big screen entertainment. The carnage, terror & the power of both the humans & monsters was a treat. The film didn’t stretch itself too long which is good. Audience were at the edge of the seat. If you looking for a movie where you will simply walk into with empty mind & enjoy then this might be a decent choice. It gave a mixed feeling of seeing so much death, gory and destruction, but hardly  any plot to hold it all together. Paul Anderson needs more than this if he have to flourish in such an universe.
