Ludo Movie Review
The plot consists of four lives, four stories which are somehow connected. A resurfaced sex tape that goes online to a rogue suitcase of money, four wildly different stories overlap with each other cleverly. While exploring the urge of fate, chance and one weirdly funny criminal. The four stories have their own problems & craziness along the movie that finally comes under the same roof at the end. Now whom Yamraj will take with him & spare.
Ludo Movie Performance:
It’s a totally new, fresh story that decodes the rules of deeds & its effect. Definitely a star-cast project but unlike the usual Bollywood ones that fails horribly most of the time like Thugs of Hindostan, Ludo succeeds to shine as one of its kind. The notable actors are Abhishek Bacchan, Rajkumar Rao, Aditya Roy Kapoor, Pankaj Tripathi, Rohit Saraf, Sanya Malhotra, Pearle Maaney & Fatima Sana Sheikh.
Now whom to talk about first. Rajkumar & Fatima had a filmy love story. He was hilarious in copying “Mithun Da’s” personality & the guy who can bring the world for his childhood love; who cares if he gets the same in return. From his fluent chanting of menu at restaurant to doing Mithun Da’s moves whenever he’s is sad, he was at his peak of comedy. You will laugh & feel sorry for him at the same time.
Here, Abhishek Bachchan was also good in his role. An old goon member, with horror from his past of losing his family gets stuck with a little stranger, Mini. Oh by the way Mini, played by Inayat Verma deserves a special mention. She was adorable & smarter than Abhishek who asks him, “Yeh Tumhari Pehki Kidnapping Thi na?” . She was so cute. Few of their scenes reminds me of Barfi (2012).
Aditya Roy Kapoor & Sanya Malhotra’s chemistry was beautiful. The ones with the leaked sex tape, from casual dating to someone dearest, their plot was very enjoyable. Rohit Saraf & Pearle Maaney who were running together with a suitcase of a goon’s money & developing love for each other inspite of having linguistic difference. Love needs no language- True. And wait till you see Pearle’s casual dance steps at the song ‘Pistah’.
Finally how can we miss this one person who’s always a show stealer- “O Beta Jee… Kismat Ki Hawa Kabhi Garam, Kabhi Naram”. Pankaj Tripathi, the deadly mafia of Mirzapur is nothing different in this movie. He is an eccentric criminal, who’s very crazy & shoot people left & right. But there’s something different. He’s is unusually funny. His appearance- a black jacket & a white dhoti with boots & black shades with his special, calm sarcasm. All made up for a very engaging watch.
Ludo Movie Technical Aspects:
The way Anurag Basu, the director has constructed this film is a pure gem. The most amazing part about the entire watch is its colors. The color palette of actual ludo game (red, green, blue, yellow) have been wisely depicted in the different lives along with the mood of their personal stories & struggles. And the four colors got consistent with the leads of the four stories. Hence, emphasizing on the meaning of the stories more. A wise cinematography style I’d say that we only get to see in many Hollywood films only. A fresh style of movie making in Bollywood that deserves appreciation.
The editing was also very nicely done. All the incidents that happens in the four different stories were very neatly & logically connected in the story that brought the four together at the end. And special mention to Anurag Basu as he played the narrator of this story. There’s something extraordinary about it & will entirely affect the quality of storytelling for you when you watch that. I feel as an audience that the last minute twist by Anurag Basu is what makes the movie more exhilarating and awe the viewers.
Ludo Movie Music:
The music & the background scores are extremely soothing. With Pritam Chakraborty’s composing & brilliant voices of singers like Ash King, Arijit Singh & Jubin Nautilya made the soundtrack to the ‘Top trending songs of 2020.’ Even the lost song ‘Qismat Ki Hawa Kabhi Naram ‘ is now reaching 14 million views today because of this film.
Ludo Movie Verdict:
In one word this is a Must-watch film from me. It deserves your time. Never before had any comedy drama like this with such extraordinary perspective & presentation had worked in Bollywood. True it released on Netflix but even if a film like this was released in theatres it could easily create a record you know, just saying. The songs are perfect & holds you together with the journey of the characters, making them memorable.
I think there cooperative acting & the music makes this film implanted in your mind long after you’ve watched it. The credit goes to Anurag Basu for such an amazing concept & extraordinary narration. Just wait for the surprise at the end when the plot finally unfolds the identity of the narrator. This film is a rat race & everything that constitutes the story building have collaborated enormously. And the Ludo title worked clearly with the story because in this unpredictable game, players crosses each other’s path numerous times . Some get bitten & some enjoy victory.
