The scheduled filming of Furiosa will begin in June 2021, in New South Wales. It is aiming for a release date of June 23, 2023. Anya Taylor-Joy will also join Chris Hemsworth and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II for Furiosa. Anya Taylor-Joy will replace Charlize Theron. The film is expected to be a prequel depicting the earlier life of the woman who became known as Furiosa, though it is not clear.
The prequel will follow the early years of Imperator Furiosa, played by Charlize Theron. She’s the war captain turned rebel insurgent in Mad Max: Fury Road. Golden Globe winner Anya Taylor-Joy, who earned outstanding reviews for her performance as Beth Harmon in The Queen’s Gambit, will star as the younger version of Furiosa.
