Torbaaz Review:
The message of this film is- “The children of refugee camps are not terrorist but the first victim of terrorism”. A very important message & when heard from Sanjay Dutt’s voice it sounds more impactful. So did this film succeeded in proving its message? It’s a decent, one time watch film with a very good story, good message, decent acting, an emotional climax & impressive cinematography. The child actors deserves a special mention. They have brought an element of refreshment to this film.
ACTING:
And to say about Sanjay Dutt, it felt good to see him in a nicely structured movie after a long time. As an audience I’d say I liked the character of Naseer, a retired Army officer Runs an NGO on human rights in Afghanistan with Ayesha, played by Nargis Fakhri, It felt like Sanjay Dutt was really enjoying his role like throwing the dialogues, playing cricket with the refugee children. In this story Ayesha, a local Afghan who runs the NGO for the refugee camp kids. She aims to give & support the life of those children traumatized by war. Nargis’s role was also refreshing and it was good to see her after a long time. And also Rahul Dev was not a hardcore villain still, he did his role well.
The other leads are obviously the child actors who did this amazing job. An also the person who cast these children deserves appreciation. The main child lead, Baaz played by Aishan Javed Malik did a wonderful a acting. And Sadik character, played by this young child actor, Rehan Sheikh. Superb acting & superb dialogue delivery. You will really fall in love with him. You will adore the way he throws his dialogues like a grown up.
TECHNICAL ASPECTS:
Now talking about the cinematography, it was something worth talking about. Hiroo Keswani did the cinematography of this film. The visuals are a strong point of this film. This is the speciality of Girish Malik’s films. His films always have top class cinematography and photography. You will be conveyed as you will see the very first scene of the film. The snow covered mountains of Afghanistan, with flocks of sheep & an eagle far away, ready to claim its prey; just make it feel as if you are watching Animal’s Planet channel. And then again the way the shots were taken of Afghanistan, its different locations, everything have been shot, edited & presented to the viewers in a very well manner.
It will give a very good visual experience to your mind. All credit to Girish Malik & his team of cinematographers and editors.
DRAWBACKS:
The music of this film is not that great. There are only two tracks which are a part of the narrative but they didn’t add much values to the scene. I think that the film failed to made its point strong although the message was very good. A lot could have been done with the story if it didn’t have a slow pace. So in that aspect the screenplay could have been much better. Also the way they shot the cricket scene I didn’t felt it. Since cricket is a very important part of this film the sports scene lacks charm. You see in a sports based film the sequences are so dramatic & powerful. Although this film has a good overall visuals but the cricket scenes don’t have that excitement let alone adrenaline rush. It failed to excite the audience. Also I felt that the war scenes was not engaging enough.
VERDICT:
Overall a ‘Not so bad film’. It sure has its weak points but it’s a decent watch. You can watch it with your family and then just like any decent, one-time watch, you can forget it together.
