Tom and Jerry Plot
The movie explores the popular rivalry when Tom and Jerry moves into New York City to make a fortune & living. When they enter a luxurious hotel where a grand Indian wedding of the century is to happen, the event manager Kayla hired Tom to get rid of Jerry. When chaos follows, it put Kayla’s career at huge risk and in turn the hotel & the wedding itself.
Tom And Jerry Review
When I sat to watch the Tom And Jerry movie I was somehow eager to see how they made it rather than excited. I also enjoyed it throughout, had a couple of laughs. But after it ended thinking of it it feels that so much more could have been done to this story. For starters change the entire story maybe.
Surely when the trailer first dropped it was exciting that finally the classic that made our childhood days so fun is finally it’s very own live-action movie. But after watching this film it is proved that it was better off without this attempt. I even wondered what this movie could have been had it been under Disney because surely WB messed it up.
Tom And Jerry Story
A lot of unnecessary characters made this movie somehow work along with the animated cat & mouse. Since Tom And Jerry don’t talk and that’s what needed to be maintained, they were somehow the secondary characters in the movie as the unwanted actors were the ‘primary’ of the story. As someone like me who has grown up watching this duo rivalry every evening with my grandmother, when I’m seeing its full-length feature film I expect to see more of them and less of other actors/characters. That’s where they fail.
The main disadvantage of this movie is that since the duo doesn’t talk so a story was needed with so many ‘extra’ people who the audience doesn’t care about. There’s a rich couple wedding in a luxurious hotel where Chloe’s character, Kayla is trying to make her job permanent and hence unnecessary foolish conversations take place between her and the event manager Terrance, played by Michael. They realize there’s a mouse in the house and Kayla takes in Tom to get rid of him.
That’s pretty much it. A lot of emphases given to the couple’s relationship, their love for each other that could have been used to develop a story that fits the childhood tv show and make it nostalgic.
Tom And Jerry Movie’s Funny Scenes
There’s very less scene that was genuinely funny. Except for the actions/expression of the Top and Jerry the others were doing cringe comedy. Saying nonsense jokes again and again trying to make it funny which didn’t work. Again when we see their cat-mouse chase, the scenes get funny.
Basically, the entire animal kingdom is animated in this movie as you’ve seen in the trailer. Seeing joyful Spike the dog and the female cat, Toodles Galore, or the street cat gang made me feel a bit nostalgic.
So are the few scenes from the cartoon episodes like jerry walking through Tom’s head, or Tom hitting Spike with a baseball bat as red bumps appear on his head, or like Spike changing his jaw set just to chase Tom. These are some scenes that might get you to laugh- as you know what’s gonna happen, still you enjoy just like you did before. There are birds that make announcements at intervals just so to make sure that the audiences are well updated if things happening.
What makes it good in Tom And Jerry
The movie has a fast pace so you will not get bored. And as you watch it you will enjoy it, no doubt. What makes the film funny is that the attitude of Tom, Jerry, or Spike are the same as those in the early tv show. Seeing them in action is what you will enjoy the most. There is a thing called ‘animal tornado’ you will just love it as the head peeks out from the tornado with funny expressions.
Verdict of Tom And Jerry
The prime audience should be kids and the people who have grown up watching this classic right. The kids must enjoy watching the animated figures running and throwing heavy objects at each other, but grown-ups might not get entirely nostalgic. This movie doesn’t hold valuable afterthoughts. When it ends it doesn’t have any impact on the grown-up audience who came to revisit childhood.
When it ends it just ends and you realise you have to return home, that’s it. But you take any Disney animated movie per se, all of them have a fresh new concept and they create such an interesting story with emotional climaxes that you sit and gaze at the black screen even after it ends. Some make you cry and some make you too joyous. To be honest I expected Tom AndJerry to be something like that; I wanted to see more of their chemistry in the modern world. Instead, we get to see a hotel with a mouse problem and Tom employed to get rid of Jerry.
Honestly speaking if you tell me to watch it again, I’d rather watch some Tom And Jerry Classic episodes on YouTube and have a good laugh. A lot could have been done to such a popular cat-mouse duo but Tim Story didn’t quite make it for the most part.
